Empowering Girls: IDECO's Commitment to Supporting Education and Preventing Early Marriage

In the Mopti region of Mali, IDECO has transformed the lives of young girls by helping them avoid early marriages and pursue brighter futures. Through scholarships, many girls have been sent to school, allowing them to focus on their education and dream of becoming professionals. For others, IDECO has provided support to start small businesses, giving them the opportunity to earn an income through petty trade. This financial independence has helped many girls avoid early marriage and take control of their futures.

In addition to these efforts, IDECO has played a vital role in encouraging some girls to return arms at the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) center in Soufrulaye. In exchange, these girls were offered the chance to go back to school or learn a trade. This initiative was highly successful, as many girls who were once caught in conflict now have the opportunity to rebuild their lives through education and vocational training.

The impact of these initiatives is profound. Girls who once faced limited options now have the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to their communities.
