About me

Agbor Rita is a dedicated gender equality advocate, peacebuilder, and development expert with a rich academic and professional background. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Gender and Development studies at the University of Buea in Cameroon, demonstrating her commitment to advancing knowledge and expertise in addressing gender disparities. She holds a Master’s degree in Gender and Development as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Curriculum Studies and Teaching, which provide a solid foundation for her educational and advocacy work.

Agbor Rita serves as the Head of Women and Gender department with the NGO- International Development and Community Organization (IDECO), where she spearheads initiatives aimed at empowering women and promoting gender equality.

In addition to this role, she is a Board Member at IDECO, contributing strategic guidance to ensure gender-focused policies and projects are effectively implemented. Her steadfast dedication to fostering inclusive and equitable communities has positioned her as a pivotal leader in advancing gender justice and driving sustainable development.

Additionally, she earned a Teachers Grade 1 Certificate (CAPIEMP), equipping her with essential skills to empower communities through education. Rita’s academic journey is further enriched by certifications and specialized training in diverse areas, including gender analysis, peacebuilding, and sustainable development, gained from internationally renowned programs such as the COP28 in Dubai and the Protection of Civilians course at the Kofi Annan International Peace Training Institute in Ghana.

Professionally, Rita has held influential roles in various organizations, showcasing her leadership and dedication to gender equality. As the founder of NGO- Local Actions for Equality and Peacebuilding (LAFEP), she designs and implements gender-responsive projects, facilitates workshops on gender-based violence (GBV), sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR), and the socio-economic effects of conflict on women.

Her work includes trauma healing sessions for female conflict victims and campaigns for women's empowerment, such as the “She Builds Peace initiative”. As a Gender Officer for Women for a Change Cameroon, she mainstreamed gender into organizational policies, trained staff on gender responsiveness, and advocated for a gender-responsive education curriculum in Cameroon.

Rita also serves as a board member for the Radical Feminist Network, working on movement building across West Africa, and for GAICAM International, where she ensures gender-sensitive approaches in project planning and implementation. Her contributions extend to the international arena, including her tenure on the CAL Board in Johannesburg, South Africa, where she focused on integrating gender into LGBTIQ policies. Rita has participated in numerous international conferences and trainings, such as the Feminist Assembly in Cameroon, the Campaign Con conference on gender equality strategies in Africa, and capacity-building workshops on GBV and SRHR facilitation.
