Tshienda Papy Christian is a seasoned international development and peacebuilding professional with extensive expertise in political affairs, civil affairs, coordination, civil society engagement, program management, and security. His career reflects a steadfast commitment to promoting social cohesion, governance, and community resilience in conflict-affected regions.
As a board member of IDECO, Tshienda Papy Christian volunteers as the Governance and Strategic Development Advisor and contributes his extensive expertise in governance, program management, and community development to guide the organization’s strategic direction. Leveraging his background in peacebuilding and civil affairs, he supports IDECO's initiatives to enhance social cohesion, empower communities, and implement impactful projects. His experience in capacity-building, conflict resolution, and fostering resilience in vulnerable communities adds significant value to IDECO’s mission of driving sustainable development and promoting inclusive growth.
Currently serving as a Civil Affairs Officer and Deputy Team Leader with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), Tshienda oversees civil affairs activities in the Western Equatorian State. He collaborates with community leaders, state authorities, civil society organizations, traditional leaders, women, and youth to address social cohesion, peace, security, and conflict management. In addition, he acts as Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Head of Field Office in the absence of the Head of Field Office, ensuring effective engagement with state governments and mission objectives.
Tshienda has held several impactful roles within United Nations missions, showcasing his expertise in civil affairs, political analysis, and capacity building. As a Civil Affairs Officer with United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), he coordinated programs and projects, built civil society capacity, and managed early warning mechanisms to enhance community safety in Mali, serving additionally as OIC Team Leader and OIC Head of Office. In his role as an Information Analyst with MINUSMA, he provided in-depth analysis of security, political, and socio-economic dynamics in the Kidal and Mopti regions, shaping mission strategies in conflict zones. While with African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID), he managed Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) in Darfur, supporting their planning, implementation, and local capacity-building efforts. Earlier, as a Political Affairs Assistant with United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC), he contributed to the Democratic Republic of Congo’s first democratic elections, the establishment of provincial assemblies, and the resolution of border conflicts, advancing peace and stability in the region.
Tshienda holds a Bachelor’s degree in Rural Development from the Higher Institute of Rural Development in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and a Master’s degree in Business and Organizational Management from the International Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering, Burkina Faso.
As a dedicated professional, Tshienda’s work consistently advances peacebuilding, governance, and development, with a focus on empowering vulnerable communities. He is married and a father, balancing his impactful career with a commitment to family.
