Veronique Reuter a dual national of Germany and Cameroon is a seasoned development professional with over two decades of extensive experience in peacekeeping, community development, and program management within the United Nations, International and non-governmental organizations. Since October 2023, she serves as the CEO of the International Development & Community Organization (IDECO) in Ghana, where she is instrumental in driving strategic planning, team leadership, and external engagement to ensure the successful implementation of programs aligned with the organization’s mission. Her expertise encompasses leadership, stakeholder coordination, and capacity building and conflict resolution making her a dynamic force in community development.

From 2015 to 2018, Veronique worked with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) within the Civil Affairs Division, where she held several key roles. She served as the Officer in Charge of the Civil Affairs Regional Coordinator, focusing on project and program management, reporting and analysis, field mission planning, and recruitment. During her tenure, she oversaw various initiatives, including Trust Fund, Programmatic and Complementary projects, as well as Quick Impact Projects (QIPs).

In 2015, Veronique was praised by prominent figures as the Governor of Mopti, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) at MINUSMA, the Director of the Civil Affairs Division at MINUSMA, the Mayor of Koro, and leaders of the Dogon and Fulani communities in Mali for organizing the first-ever MINUSMA-facilitated a community dialogue between the Dogon’s mostly famers and the Fulanis mostly herders’ communities in the volatile Mopti Region, particularly in Koro Cercle. Veronique successfully mediated between the conflicting parties, utilizing her exceptional mediation skills to bring them together. For the first time in three years, they shared meals and sat side by side under the same roof, symbolizing a significant breakthrough in reconciliation efforts within the cercle and the broader region. The two-day workshop, which brought together over 400 participants, signaled a key turning point in fostering reconciliation in Koro Cercle and across the Mopti region.

From 2019-2023, Veronique was promoted to Supervisor of the Social Cohesion Unit within the Civil Affairs Division, Regional Head Office in Mali's Central Region. She oversaw peacebuilding projects with a budget exceeding $4 million across five central regions. Veronique improved strategic communication by enhancing visibility, media coverage, and reporting on the unit's operations. She also managed Trust Funds, Programmatic and Complementary Funds, Quick Impact Projects, and projects under the UN Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect in New York

She also led and supervised the Social Cohesion Unit as Team Leader while ensuring the effective implementation of projects designed to foster peace and stability. Through this role, she developed a deep understanding of the social dynamics in conflict-affected regions and played a critical role in promoting the mission's objectives by coordinating activities with other Civil Affairs units, MINUSMA substantive sections, local communities, government authorities, and International Organizations.

Veronique, a Gender Officer with an NGO in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has gained expertise in gender-sensitive approaches through her work in peacebuilding initiatives. She later integrated these into her work at the United Nations and MINUSMA, ensuring gender perspectives were central to civil affairs. Veronique has held key electoral roles, including Associate Electoral Officer with MONUSCO and Electoral Support Officer with UNMIL, contributing to democratic processes in these countries. Her experience in recruitment and human resources management began as an intern and recruitment assistant at the UN Volunteers HQ in Bonn, Germany where she screens applications, conducts interviews, and supports the recruitment process.

Veronique's experience in election observation further highlights her versatility, as she supported missions with the Organization for Security Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Albania, The Carter Center in South Sudan, and the European Union Election Observation Mission (EUEOM) in Burundi, Togo, and Malawi. Through these missions, she gained deep insights into the complexities of electoral processes and worked to promote democratic principles in various contexts.

In the early stages of her career, Veronique worked as a Communication Assistant with the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where she was responsible for managing and ensuring the secure transmission of sensitive communications across multiple UN agencies and mission areas.

Veronique is currently preparing her thesis for a Master’s degree in Development Studies and Diplomacy at the University for Peace in Costa Rica. She also holds a Master’s in Conflictology, a Postgraduate Diploma in Armed Conflict and Crisis Management, and a specialization certificate in Management, all from the Universität Oberta de Catalunya in Spain. Additionally, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Buea in Cameroon.

Fluent in both English and French with advance knowledge in German, Veronique has participated in a wide range of professional development programs that have significantly enhanced her knowledge and skills in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, humanitarian assistance, and electoral processes. They include, Courses in Conflict Analysis and Mediation; Long-Term, Short- Term and Midterm Election Observation Training; UNDP-Training on E-learning Course on Effective Electoral Assistance. Specialization Course on Mission Management, Administration, and Support; Core Course on Peace Operation; Protection of Civilians; Gender Mainstreaming in Mediation; Climate Security; Women Peace and Security; VIKING Exercise - UN Mandated Chapter VII Crisis Response/Peace Support Operations; Gender-Sensitive Planning in Conflict Transformation & Peacebuilding among others. These qualifications and experiences have equipped her with the skills and knowledge necessary to lead complex projects, manage diverse teams, and foster collaboration among stakeholders, ensuring the successful execution of programs that promote peace, security, and sustainable development.
